Apartment was immaculately clean on arrival. Milk, muffins, jam and butter plus toiletries all provided, an added kind and thoughtful touch. Apartment was very spacious and comfortable in every aspect. Have already recommended it to family, and we will return when we decide to visit York again. Thank you for everything. Great location close to Bishy Road amenities and then a short walk to city centre. The pig and pastry café was lovely and even accommodated a vegan in our party. Had a takeaway from the Indian which was very tasty. 2 great charity shops also. Preferred to walk in the city that end of Scarcroft Road for these reasons.

A little tight for a family of four with it only having one bedroom. Lilian was very helpful and quick to sort any issues. A dish cloth and dustpan and brush would have been handy though I suspect the latter would have been available on request. Easy walking distance of the city centre and a park nearby.

5/5 Perfect place, perfect location
This place has everything needed for a self catering family. It's designed to make full use of a smallish space and still manages to be neat and practical, stylish and homely all at once. It is spotlessly clean and fresh. The location is equally impressive - next to a peaceful bowling green, a park, a short walk away from a nice selection of shops and restaurants. Just a little further and you are at the castle walls of historic York. Very pleased to have discovered this place and hope to return.

We were looking for one night’s lodging in York for our family en-route from Edinburgh to London. We based our booking on Trip Advisor reviews and weren't disappointed! What a perfect location just five minutes walk from town and places of interest. Very spacious with lots of room for our family of 'five'. The two story home has four apartments --we had half of the upper level! The kitchen was perfect with fridge, stove, toaster, etc to prepare meals if you wish. They even had the fridge stocked with juice, bread, eggs, etc and we were able to make a quick breakfast before we headed back on the road. When you rent apartment style accommodations, the owners are not around like a bed & breakfast. The owners left plenty of maps and sight-seeing information for their guests. The price was very reasonably and worth every penny! A great place to stay!

Charming, warm and cozy in mid winter, private and quiet, spotlessly clean, comfy beds & living room, very well equipped kitchen, great safe location with a nice stroll to old centre........ the nicest of our stopovers on our winter road trip from Edinburgh to London and would definitely stay again. Lilian and her mum also lovely and helpful Everything you need in strolling distance, old town, supermarkets, restaurants. No need for car at all.

The apartment was spotless, in a good location and very well equipped. It was also handy to have off road parking and shops within a five minute walk. I would definitely consider staying here again. An interesting and pleasant 15 minute walk into York centre. Shops, restaurants and take aways within a 5 minute walk.

Lovely accommodation and attention to detail was a very nice surprise. A lot of time has been spent considering guests needs even down to there being plenty of coat hangers for clothing. The apartment is homely and comfortable and a nice walking distance from York centre.
My only criticism is that the shower did not work very well as not enough pressure. I would recommend and am sure I will be staying again. Thank you Lillian form making a lovely place to stay. Local amenities are good there is a Sainsbury’s local, subway, KFC and cinema on Blossom road. If you want to take a different route walk through the bowling greens park which leads to the main road is nice and peaceful.

Overall, homely and comfortable stay. The owner was friendly,trustworthy and nothing was too much trouble for them. Recommend leaving the car at apartment and having a walk into the centre as it only takes 10 minutes.Lovely scenic route and when in the centre there are plenty of restaurants and shops. Travelled in November and went to see the Christmas markets and would highly recommend visiting these if the opportunity is there to do!

Made to feel very welcome by everyone including the very friendly locals! Couldn't have been more helpful. Loved the outlook at the rear, including the squirrels and array of small birds which we also enjoy at home. Thoroughly recommended. Ideal location with off-street-parking. Local Sainsburys very close by with train station and local shops not too far away. Locals are lovely people, always willing to help. Loads of shops where ever you go. Do some homework before you arrive and just try the local bars and restaurants. We loved every minute and may even move there! Loved the squirrels, both at the front and rear of the flat :) Thank you for everything. We will be back :)

It was like a home from home. Our double bedroom was very comfortable. Our son struggled to sleep in the temporary bed. He woke up at least 4 times during both nights. At home he sleeps really well.

Great location with walking distant to all the places of interest. A small park near the apartment great for kids to have some outdoor fun too. The apartment is Super clean and great kitchen with all you need to cook. Had a great stay with the cosy feeling of being home. Will definitely be back to stay if to visit York again! What a great place! Ideally located just outside the city walls and a short walk from Micklegate. The apartment is spacious and very well equipped with its own parking. Very comfy bed too. We made an excellent choice staying here and wouldn't hesitate next time we're in York.

Poplar house is fantastic and in a brilliant location only a 10 minute walk to the city centre. We were made to feel very welcome at check in and the owner was more than happy to give us information on places to visit. The appartment is modern with beautiful decor and has everything you need for a really comfortable stay, our youngest child is 14 months old, a lovely travel cot was provided and even a little high chair to fit onto one of the dining room chairs. It was lovely surprise in the kitchen to find a pint of milk in the fridge along with eggs, muffins, butters, jams and fresh coffee. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting to stay in York.

Spacious, comfortable with everything you might need. Dedicated parking space. In other words.... Perfect! Where do you start with York??? Lovely restaurants within a few minutes walk, as well as Sainsbury and take aways. All of the attractions are within walking distance. We visited Clifford's Fort and York Castle Museum this time. The playground at the back is another big bonus to our kids. You don't have to get buried in the crowds of the city centre yet the centre is so reachable within walking distance. There is a lot to do and we just felt 2 nights were not that enough. We shall return in the future. Many thanks, Lillian and Shaun! :-) Walking along the old walls is so much fun. A stroll along the lovely streets, esp in the early mornings, make you feel super relaxed. Betty's tea room is marvelous, go there early ( bef 3pm probably) to grab the scones for breakfast. Or, if you don't mind, queue up a little bit for the fabulous dine-in experience.

Excellence personified.The apartment that surpasses all others.Situated in a lovely location a short walk from the city this 4 roomed apartment is quality-full stop.
Where do I start? Lounge has leather sofas,HDV television,floral displays.Kitchen is something from a Vogue magazine-fridge,freezer, washing machine,coffee dispenser-more appliances than a Curry's showroom. In the fridge were complimentary jams, butter,eggs and crumpets.Bathroom pristine,electric power shower with variable heat controls,heated towel rail and towels in abundance.Bedroom with comfortable beds,crisp linen and full heating if required. Spacious hallway and private entry door. To top all this,there is a parking space! Worth it's weight in gold in a city.
I've saved the best till last!.........Lilian!( proprietor) The most warm and helpful person you could hope to meet.Nothing is too much trouble for this lady. Informative,caring and a dry sense of humour! All in all,a brilliant stay-don't change the formula.

Steps from York gate, easy parking, very clean, comfortable, exactly as described and more. We felt welcomed from the minute we arrived. The owner left us some biscuits, milk and eggs and it just warmed our heart. When we return to York, we will return to this accommodation. We spent 25 days in Europe this summer and this "apartment" was one of the highlights. Quiet yet close to the action of York (if you can call it action). Cosy but roomy. Well stocked with everything an apartment needs for cutlery, pots, pans and more. Little touches everywhere just made the stay delightful. Only regret? We did not get to meet the owner because we arrived late and left early.
Room Tip: If you are staying in or near York, don't hesitate, this is the perfect place.

The apartment has all the things you need to stay comfortably and not miss sugar for your tea, or salt, pepper and oil for cooking. Got quite addicted to that coffee - dubbed "a George Clooney" in our household. The place was spotlessly clean, and as Scandinavians we laughed a little at the decoration, which reminded us of Christmas - in July! The shower device could have been better - it doesn't give a lot of water but still ran out of hot water once when it was the third person's turn.

Poplar House was an excellent choice for our family of two adults and two children (9 and 12 years). We walked to everything in the walled city of York easily. The walls were about 10 minutes walk away. The flat had everything we needed, including car parking. Lillian's recommendations regarding things to see were excellent, and she provided plenty of brochures on tourist attractions as well. Recommended.

The accommodation was first class in an excellent area for all attractions which were within easy walking distance. The on site free parking is a bonus as driving in York is to be avoided and parking in the centre is very expensive. The Castle Museum is very interesting and the railway museum is well worth a visit with free entry.

Welcomed with fresh eggs and muffins to get us started in the morning. The Nespresso machine was a welcome addition to having a home made breakfast before starting the day exploring York. Supermarkets nearby makes self-catering easy to do. Easy walking distance to the centre of York. The safe parking for the hired car also welcomed. Great variety of food outlets, restaurants and pubs. Despite York's old character, plenty of modern shopping available.

It had everything you could possibly want for a stay, even down to washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. The apartment was spotlessly clean and was very nicely appointed. It was in a great location, only 10 minutes walk from the station and a pleasant walk into town. There were numerous takeaways and pubs nearby. We loved it and will definitely be staying again. I visited the railway museum (free, although a contribution is appreciated), which I loved and got the land train across to York Minster (£2 one way). Hotel du Vin was a two minutes walk from the apartment, great for an alfresco drink. Oxo's at the Mount, is just round the corner and although we didn't eat there during this recent stay, we have been before and it is great.

Kitchen well equipped if you needed to make meals. However we ate out but nice to have the option. Apartment was very clean and the street on which it was situated was quiet. Nice welcome pack. Lilian was available if needed, as we didn't we only saw her when leaving. This made for a relaxing holiday. I would choose this as a place to stay again. Harrogate and Knaresborough are nice to visit, can be done on the same day. Short travel distance on train and you can hop of and on train with northern duo ticket. Thirsk was a 20 minute walk from station but The James Herriot Museum was great. It is not far to walk into York, maybe 15 minutes, and at the end of scarcroft road is a lovely selection of shops.

We were quite surprised at just how clean and well equipped the apartment was. The hostess was very friendly and informative. It felt "like home" as soon as we walked in the door. Location wise it couldn't have been better. It was just an easy walk to the best of York's attractions. It was really nice to be able to cook a "home cooked" meal in a well equipped kitchen, sharp cooking knives were much appreciated for someone who enjoys cooking. All in all I would certainly stay there again. Off street parking was also a great bonus.

My partner and I stayed at the apartments, as he was on a business trip and I went along. The apartment was perfect: extremely clean; very spacious; and had everything you could possibly want. Basic provisions for breakfast were supplied, along with tea and coffee and a coffee maker. The apartment was in a lovely location, being only a 10 minute walk from the station and town. In the local area, not more than a five minute walk, were a range of takeaways, pubs and even Hotel du Vin, lovely for an alfresco drink. All in all, the apartment was fantastic and we will definitely be staying again.

Really nice apartment that was absolutely spotless. There were 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children)and we all fit into the bedroom comfortably with room to spare. Everything you might need is within walking distance eg supermarket, pubs, restaurants takeaways, shops and a really nice park.

It's a sort walk away from the city center and the staff are really helpful The place was clean and tidy with all the essentials and extras you could possibly need. I chose Poplar House owing to the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and the fact that it looked gorgeous! I'm so glad I did, it really added to the greatness of an already wonderful trip. Lilian was so welcoming and friendly, thank you so so much for the bottle of Prosecco you left us as it was my boyfriends birthday, it was lovely and so thoughtful. I'd totally recommend these apartments if you're thinking of having a little break away in York, they're beautifully decorated and so homely. It takes about 10-15 mins to get to the city centre, but it's a good walk with lots to see and places to pop into en route. Me and my boyfriend will definitely be back in the future as we fell in love with york but also with our little apartment. Thank you so much and we'll see you next year :-D

お部屋はとても広くて快適でした。11日滞在したのでキッチンで食事を作って食べられるのは助かりました。台所の窓から可愛いリスの姿が見えて癒されました。ただ到着した日からWiFiの接続が上手く行かなく滞在の半分以上はカフェなどに行って接続しなくてはならなく、寒い雨の中PC持って出かけなければならないのは大変苦痛でした。ネット環境はちゃんとして欲しいです。

Lovely apartments. Really good location. Less than a 10 minute walk to the city walls and close to the train station. The apartments themselves are just amazing for the price. The owners thoughtfully left us eggs, muffins and milk for breakfast. There was also cooking oil, dish washer tablets, washing up liquid and tea, coffee and sugar available to use in the kitchen. The apartments were clean and the beds were very comfy. I just wish we could have stayed longer. The owners of the apartments were really helpful when we arrived in pointing us in the right direction of the city and also providing us with maps and recommendations on places to eat for lunch.

Pros: Self contained apartment.
Cons: Nothing, had everything we needed. Including car parking.
Location: 15 mins walk from town centre, lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Close to Micklegate and York Castle Museum. Excellent accommodation. Met by Lilian on arrival,who showed us around apartment. Everything we could possibly need included. Grocery pack on arrival a lovely touch. Will return on next trip to York.

Room 1 is an excellent choice for a York base. Large comfy bedroom, also a large lounge room and a useful kitchen (with a washing machine too). All spotlessly clean and well equipped. Fast, easy to access and free in room Wi-Fi. We found the hot water great and reliable. We also had no issues with the central heating; which we were happy to turn down and open the windows in late March, for the much valued fresh air. Helpful hosts, free convenient parking and a breakfast pack. We could only stay 2 nights which does not really do York justice. Our pricing was also very good value. A 5 minute walk to the city walls.

We stayed here for one night while in York to see a show. The apartment was spotless, very comfortable and roomy. I really like the location as we could walk into the city centre in just 15 mins. We had never been to York before and wish we had longer there. I would definatley like to stay here again, it was just right for us, great to have milk and eggs in the appartment on arrival and a good coffee machine!

Spacious and comfortable apartment, perfectly situated walking distance to the town centre. The parking space is a bonus! However, we were cold! The heating control did not work, so we could not turn up the heat. Also, the hot water was erratic, to say the least. A cold shower on the last morning was most unwelcome... And the wi fi was erratic, to put it mildly, often not available at all. I notice that all these issues have been brought up by previous guests, so it is disappointing that no action has been taken to rectify them.

We booked the day before ad the only times they had available was 6pm or 9pm.

We can't recommend this place highly enough. Lillian was so welcoming & went to the trouble of spending time with us to explain the highlights of the city. The apartment itself (no. 1) was fantastic. Super clean & had everything that we cud have needed even down to muffins, eggs & milk. There was so much info provided from the detailed info pack to taxi numbers & restaurant recommendations. Just returned from a couple of days in York staying in these splendid apartments.Many visits previously but have always stayed in hotels -goodness knows why. Poplar house provides a very spacious and convenient alternative which is so well thought out and immaculately clean under the very capable and friendly stewardship of Lillian and her mom. Best place we have stayed in York and very reasonably priced. First rate!!

A super spacious and well fitted out conversion of the first floor of a large house into two flats giving far more room than the average hotel can provide. Everything has been considered even to mood lighting and a welcome pack. We will go again. A comprehensive guide is provided in the apartment to the many local points of interest. We would recommend the museums - both large and small -and in good weather walks along the walls and up and down the river, to include river trips. Many good restaurants but we visited Rustique on Lendl - not to be missed. The Judges lodging are also worth a try for dinner.

I would highly recommend these appartments to a family or couple who'd like more space than you would ever get in a hotel. York has loads to offer - museums, history, architecture, shopping and entertainment. We went to the Railway Museum and walked along the city walls.

The staff were very helpful and available to help with any enquiries. Within 5/10 mins of the premise is a nice park, a Sainsbury's, cinema, kfc, restaurants and just a short distance in the other direction is a neat shopping area with a fruit and veg shop, bakery and other boutique type shops. The York castle museum is a 15 min walk away just over the river ouse, again a pleasant walk via the shopping area.

Booked for the toddler and us as hotel rooms such a pain after getting him to sleep. This worked really well, big bedroom, immaculate travel cot and bedding provided, and separate lounge to enjoy when he was asleep. Stayed in many a rental cottage for much bigger groups that are poorly set-up to actually cook, this was better equipped than anywhere we've stayed - but, as so close to town lots of good places on way to town, so not essential to cook. We used as a city break before Christmas (and festive decorations were up), but an easy part of York to get out and about from, so could very easily stay here for a good bit of time to explore more widely. Would certainly stay here again, great apartment, great location (park 2 min, doddle).

We really appreciated being able to park right outside the property and leave our car there all day. Parking in York is often a challenge and this was a great help. This was our second stay at Poplar House as we were made so welcome the first time (PH)
Once again our welcome was warm and everything was provided for our comfort. On site parking is a real bonus. This will certainly be our first choice for future visits. Although Poplar House is in a quiet location the 15 minute walk to the city centre is packed with restaurants, takeaways and shops. Not far from the river, with and access to part of the city-walls walk at Micklegate, we also passed many historic buildings and sights. The Christmas markets are really atmospheric and the children in our party found lots to interest them.

We stayed here Oct half term for 2 nights. 2 adults, 2 children aged 5 and 2. The apartment was lovely. Clean with nice decor with added touches to make your stay very comfortable. We were left milk, eggs and crumpets which was a nice touch and there was a nice coffee machine which my husband liked. Free WiFi was useful. Washing and dishwasher and all the utensils u would need, even plastic items for the kids. The beds were very comfy and although the 4 of us slept in one room it was still spacious. Much better than staying in a hotel. We were made to feel very welcome and showed around on arrival and there was parking available so meant we didn't use our car at all while we were there which was nice. The apartment was within walking distance to the centre of York and there are places to eat and drink closer if you want a shorter walk. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely recommend to others and stay again next time we visit York. Thank you Shaun. You have a lovely place. See you again.

100% recommend. Home from home. Thoughtful welcome pack included. Secure private parking. I only wish I'd booked to stay longer. The owners were lovely people, nothing was too much trouble, so helpful and very very friendly. Everything you need for the perfect stay when visiting York. We will most certainly be returning sooner rather than later. Really close to the town centre (10 minute walk). Must visits are the shambles, York market, fabulous pubs with the best atmospheres, restaurants just everywhere, one of my favourites was the 29 states Indian restaurant, best Indian food I've eaten in a long time, Yorkminster cathedral awesome both outside and in, fantastic local cheeses, honey, jams/preserves etc. The local craft fair was out of this world (prob be Xmas next time it's on!) hand crafted pottery, jewellery and art-work were just a few of the stunning things available to buy. I can't wait to go back for my Xmas shopping there.

The quality and cleanliness of these apartments is fantastic (LR)
The apartments have everything in them you will need for either a short or longer stay in York. They are located within easy walking distance to the centre, or the racecourse, and there is a small 'high street' a few minutes walk away with many restaurants, pubs, pizza and fast food outlets. Shaun provides muffins, eggs, milk etc., for breakfast, however you have a full kitchen with every type of cooking utensil you would need to prepare something more elaborate. The lounge area has ample seating and dining facilities for a family and also TV and wi-fi for entertainment. The bedroom looks out onto the bowling green and is very quiet. The bedding and towels are very high quality, and the bathroom has all you would expect. In the past I have used a hotel for overnight stays in the area but will certainly be using this apartment again if it’s available when I need to stop over. I was here on a business trip so did not have time to enjoy the many facilities and attractions York has to offer. Having stayed in hotels in York many times, the city is probably one of the best to walk around with many exclusive shops and small restaurants to explore.

Perfect location too, with the town just a short 10min walk away. The wee starter pack on arrivals handy too, although there are plenty of local shops nearby for any essentials. Owners are so welcoming and can advise you on all things York, great if its your first visit. Cannot fault it at all. York is so full of different things to do you'll be spoilt for choice. The railway museum is worth a visit, as is the Jorvik Centre. A walk round the wall is great on a nice day and the riverboat cruises are really enjoyable too. There's something for everyone in York. You're also spoilt for restaurants, there's a choice of everything you could want, from Italian to Thai and everything in between.

The apartment provides full cooking facilities with a welcome food package, a washing machine, clothes airer, iron, separate lounge and parking area. It's walking distance to shops, restaurants and tourist spots. The apartments are reached by stairs to the first floor. York central and the train station is a short flat walk and various restaurants are nearby. There is a mini mart also within walking distance. A great place to base yourself for Yorkshire.

Very comfortable sitting room, homely, clean and fresh. Every comfort catered for including a blanket over the sofa back and table mats and coasters. Bedroom was large enough for the king sized bed plus two single Z beds as well as a large wardrobe and two bedside chests. The kitchen was a masterpiece of space usage with plenty of crockery and pots and pans. Even washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and washing powder were supplied. The kitchen also had a bonus of a nespresso coffee machine with coffee pods provided! The bathroom was compact and well equiped with cupboards and bathmat. Towels were provided - large, white and soft. Would not hesitate to recommend the apartments. Barley Hall is a must. The Richard III experience was good too. My children (10 & 12 years) LOVED the chocolate story, but we were all somewhat dissapointed in the Jorvik Centre. We ate in mostly as the kitchen is so well equiped. but ate at Lo Spuntino one night - it was quite nice and reasonably priced - around £50 for shared garlic bread, main course for 3 and a shared desert plus 4 soft drinks and a glass of house wine.

Found the apartment on Booking.com and couldn't be happier with this little gem. It's a 5 min walk into the centre of York, although it took us longer with 2 dawdling kids. We stayed in Apartment 2. Even with the 2 extra beds put in for the kids, there was still plenty of room in the bedroom, we weren't falling over each other. The kitchen has everything you need and a great touch is there being butter, jam and fresh milk in the fridge. Tea, coffee and sugar were provided, as well as some breakfast muffins. The living room has a feeling of being at home, the whole apartment has a great feel and it was spotlessly clean. If it hadn't been booked up, we'd have stayed longer! We hadn't visited York before, but we'll definitely be back and staying at Poplar

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here early December 2014 as he booked it as a gift for my birthday. We were in the apartment on the left hand side at the top of the staircase. The apartment was brilliant and a real home from home vibe, Shaun was a lovely man and even provided muffins, milk, jam and butter for our breakfast. We felt very welcome as soon as we arrived, and after we were shown around the apartment Shaun left us to enjoy ourselves, and told us if we needed anything to just call and ask.
The apartment had everything you would need, it was spacious and spotless, and I was made-up with the coffee machine! I actually told my boyfriend I could live there permanently haha! Our first evening we walked into the centre of York for a meal and a couple of drinks, it was only a 10 minute walk which was brilliant. The second evening we walked back into the centre again and had a stroll around the Yorkshire Christmas markets which were beautiful!
The apartment was easy to find, and it was handy that there was off-road parking. When we return to York again we will definitely be booking with Poplar House. I couldn't fault it if I tried. Thank you for your hospitality Shaun, you have done a fantastic job with your apartments. I will recommend to everyone :)

Apartment's neat and clean, located in adjoining first floor flats with a fully equipped kitchen. The landlord provides milk, eggs, bread, etc. that can be used as the next day's breakfast. A convenience store is near the apartments. York Minster is about 15 minutes walking time . The Apartments have front-of-house parking.

Lovely apartments close to the centre (PH)
We were very pleased with this lovely, spacious apartment in a quiet, pleasant street - ask for the apartment with the view of the bowling green. It’s not far (10-15 minutes walk) from the city centre with free parking out the front. Our apartment had a nice, comfortable sitting room and a large bedroom with a good kingsize bed. The small kitchen was very well equipped with even a little dishwasher and a washing machine. We were given a friendly welcome by Shaun and were delighted with the generous supplies (coffee, tea, milk, eggs, muffins, butter and jam) which were left out for us. Plus there was everything else you could need such as laundry detergent for the washing machine and maps and tourist brochures in the hall. The bathroom was very clean as was the kitchen. The only minor downside was the lack of privacy. Every door (including the bathroom) is half-glazed with a rim of clear glass round the lightly frosted panels. We could see into the other apartment’s bedroom from the shared landing and guess they could see into ours. It also made it difficult to get the bedroom dark at night. Not great but could easily be fixed with some blinds. Nevertheless we highly recommend these apartments and would gladly stay there again.

Washing powder etc. was very welcome. The Single-beds requested are perhaps a little on the small side, although comfortable. Hand wash/sanitiser isn't an adequate substitute for bath gel/shampoo/conditioner. Hotel-type sachets would lead to a 10/10 rating.

We stayed at Poplar House for one night when visiting the races. The accommodation is perfectly located for both the racecourse and the city centre, being just a 10 minute walk in either direction. The accommodation itself was great, a real home from home and we could have easily stayed for much longer. The apartment had everything you could think of and was spotlessly clean. There was even some muffins, eggs, milk, coffee etc left out for us which was a really nice touch. Shaun the owner, was very friendly, he responded to a query very quickly by email and allowed us to leave our car on the drive when we went shopping in the city after checkout. All in all a perfect stay, great facilities, quiet and much better value for money than the hotels chains I previously looked at!

What's not to like? A home away from home. Nice, cosy, and comfortable. Very nice owner. Helpful with maps, and suggestions for everything. Nice warm water shower. The hair dryer should be more powerful, as it goes off when hot. The toilets need hose. I know it's not common in the UK, but it would be helpful and grateful if added. The WiFi signal sometimes disappears, or gets weak. Nothing major though. The curtains could be darker to block the early sunshine.

A brilliant location with a parking space makes it ideal for either the centre of York or the racecourse. Shaun was extremely helpful with directions to the apartment and providing useful information on our arrival. Would certainly stay again when visiting York.

Perfect place to relax near the city (BC)
We were looking for an apartment instead of a hotel to give us some private time together and enjoy each other's company. We didn't want a room in a hotel and wanted to be able to relax and cook for each other. It also had to be near the centre of York to avoid having to drive anywhere.
This place ticked all the boxes!
Situated about 5 minutes (max) walk from the centre and with it's own free parking I don't think we could have got a better place if we'd tried. The walk to the centre is short and flat, through some nice streets. Within minutes we were surrounded by the city walls, some fantastic bars and restaurants and a great choice of shops too. Walking home later after a few drinks and a meal meant we didn't need a cab either. Perfect.
The apartment itself is very well done out. All modern and comfy. The living room is a good size with very nice furniture. The bedroom is nice and airy, great views of the park and the bed is very comfortable. The kitchen is a good size and again well kitted out. As for the bathroom, I love it. Clean and modern and not one part of this place feels dirty or tired. You can unwind here and feel at home in seconds.
We were greeted by a very friendly man who booked us in and showed us around. He couldn't have been more welcoming and made sure we knew where everything was. There's also a nice collection of maps and books in the apartment to ensure you know what to see while you're here.

Very homely and well located (BC)
Just a short walk from all of the main attractions in York, this accommodation ticks all the boxes for clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced lodging. We stayed for two nights and we were very happy with our stay. We were happy to be just outside of the centre of York which can be quite rowdy and raucous.

We stayed one night in Poplar apartments in March 2015. We had a great friendly welcome from the owners, Shaun and Lilian who are both lovely people. The flat had everything we needed, although we haven't spent much time in it as we were busy exploring York! Kitchen is well equipped, Nespresso coffee machine and pods were provided, along with milk, eggs, muffins, butter and jam, so we had a nice breakfast in the flat. We also took a map of York from the flat which came handy. The flat was very clean and nicely decorated and we had a good nights sleep. It is only 10 minutes from York city centre and we enjoyed our walk on the city walls. We

Good advice on local amenities and a very well appointed location. The apartment was very tasteful and had all we required to make a hassle free stay perfect. Thoroughly recommended. Close to all aspects of York and the old town within easy walking distance. Packed with restaurants and shops for supplies, should you choose to eat in. So much to do during the day and night so all tastes should be catered for.

Thank you for all you assistance. The Steam Train museum is a must. York Minister is not to be missed. Low cost to enter, worth it. The Shambles, unbelievable, do not forget to take pictures. Had a wonderful nights sleep, beds very comfy. Bathroom/shower lovely and kitchen had everything that we needed. Felt very much at home there and would love to go back again soon. Within walking distance from the town centre so plenty to do. Had cake and coffee at La Cremeria on High Petergate; lovely food and very friendly and welcoming. Also visited the Yorvik centre, the Minster and the York Castle Museum which had a very good replica of a victorian street. Went on the Ghost Hunt that met at the Shambles at 7.30 which was very, very good - funny and creepy. We also went for tea at the Guy Fawkes Inn afterwards which was atmospheric - a fitting end to the Ghost Hunt.

Fantastic place to stay - all you need & more (BC)
Post Christmas R&R. Ideally located, easy to find off the A64, handy for the railway station, and a short walk from Micklegate with free parking immediately outside (a rarity in York). Poplar House is a great place to stay whether seeing the sights or on business. The spacious, well equipped apartments are so much nicer than a hotel room, and Shaun, the owner is an excellent host. Although we arrived early the apartment was ready and 'check in' was very efficient, as well as informal. The welcome pack is a nice touch and if you are self-catering there is a Sainsbury's local 5 mins away. If you don't fancy cooking then there are plenty of restaurants to suit all budgets within walking distance, along with a variety of good pubs. Even though there were roadworks outside during our stay we weren't bothered by any noise. Would recommend to anyone contemplating a stay in York.

Myself, my husband, and 9 year son stayed for the weekend just before Christmas to visit the fabulous shops and markets there in york. The apartment was beautiful, far better to what I had expected. It just felt as if we were at home; fully equipped kitchen, extremely clean and tidy and I would love to go back there again! It was a 10 minute walk into the centre of town, so we parked the car up free, and walked in and out with our shopping all weekend ! The owner Shaun was so very helpful and had left maps and other tourist information in the apartment for us! Get your weekend away booked!!!

We were welcomed by Mr Shaun, property owner. It's a full-equipped apartment. Free parking. 10 mins walk to city, 3 min to restaurants, a bit of noise coz is in front of small road, but it's quiet in bedroom. It has a festive decorated hall, and full kitchen facilities with washing machine, nespresso coffee, fresh muffin 'n eggs, milk, butter also provided. No shower essentials but it's fine, coz we always use our own shower gel-n-shampoo. Apartment is clean. No foul smell, warm bathroom, and a clothes hanging rack. (Edit: in the apartment Hallway). Very happy with our stay!

This was our first holiday with our 5 month old, and for our anniversary. Amazing homely apartment and really lovely owner, only met Shaun and he made us feel very welcome. Stayed two nights were provided with a travel cot and seat for baby to eat in, and extra towels for baby mess ha! We were given eggs, muffins, jams, butter, milk, tea and coffee (also a nespresso coffee maker) to keep us going. Lovely touch. Very clean apartment with all basics that are needed in the kitchen especially - fully equipped with everything cooking/cleaning wise. Close to city centre and museums and lovely walks. Free WIFI. Freeview. We throughly enjoyed everything about our stay here and would love to visit again one day.

The apartment is first rate and for us as a family it meant that we could put the little one to bed and enjoy a relaxing evening (PH)
The location is great 10mins walk from the train station and overlooking the park. It has plenty of restaurants nearby and food shopping. Will definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone. 15 minutes walk into york which is close to Clifford tower and York Castle museum. 5 minutes walk to sainsburys if you need provisions however shaun does provide milk eggs muffin tea and coffee. It is also minutes away from the park if you have kids and there is york dungeon for older children with families.

Very pleasant, comfortable, cosy, warm, excellent strength free Wi-Fi, kitchen facilities, very comfy beds and lovely sheets, great location. We walked everywhere, didn't need to use taxis for once, and I had two young boys with me. Nice and quiet as well, always had a good sleep. Attentive, helpful, pleasant owner. Lovely Apartment (PH)
Booked our stay in July for October and Shaun sent me an email full of information on what to do and see as we were travelling as a family. Upon arrival we were met by Shaun who showed us around the apartment and provided us with milk, eggs, muffins and wine which was great as it was also out wedding anniversary. I couldn't fault the apartment much it was spacious, comfortable and allowed me and my husband to put our little one to bed and retreat to the living room to enjoy a relaxed evening without waking our little one. The only niggle we had was that the entrance door was facing the bedroom and even though it was opaque we ended up putting a towel over the door so that the morning light wouldn't shine through and wake us up as well as for privacy. We would definitely stay again as it was just the ticket however it would be for longer next time!

Great little apartment with all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. Cannot think of anything I would have needed to make the stay any better. Very friendly welcome from Shaun on arrival. Off street parking at the front door but it is a very busy road - the traffic in York is shocking - so don't miss the building or it will take you ages to turn around and get back! The tariff was a little high but it was a Friday night, I booked late and the local beer festival was just starting so it might be cheaper at other times. Even so it was good value for money and I would definitely stay again. Within walking distance of the train station and the Minster but not right in the centre of the town. 5-10 minute walk to shops, pubs and a really good fish and chip shop. Wifi worked well and fully equipped kitchen and washing machine. High quality fittings and very nicely decorated.

It was quickly established that there had been a problem with the booking. Without fuss Shaun and Lilian located extra bedding and left us to settle. Close to the city centre and we enjoyed walking in after a day in the car, and did so again before we drove home. Our only complaint was that we only stayed one night! Cannot recommend enough!

York and the Poplar House Apartments are at the top of our favorite places we visited (BC)
We were truly amazed when we walked into our apartment. Large, sunny rooms, great kitchen, living room and bath. The kitchen included coffee, tea, eggs, bread, butter, preserves, milk, and a bag of ice in the freezer. Within easy walking distance to the town (Edit: City) of York which includes numerous pubs and excellent restaurants. Shaun (owner) will pick up his visitors from the train station if requested in advance. Beautiful landscaped yard with a bowling green 2 doors down the street (Edit: Next door!). York served as a Roman provincial capital in A.D. 71, and then capital of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria after the fall of Rome. Henry VIII used the city's Cathedral (called the Minster which is an Anglo-Saxon term), as northern headquarters of his Anglican Church. The Minster has more original medieval glass than rest of England's churches combined. Some artifacts in the Minster date to A.D. 39. We attended the Evensong at the Minster where the Dean of the cathedral greeted everyone, and the male choir along with the organist, produced phenomenal music in candlelight. Day before we left the UK I read in the paper that the Dean of the Minster will become the first female bishop in the Anglican Church. Hope to return to York in this lifetime!

We had stayed at Poplar House during the Festival of Angels (BC)
Shaun was extremely helpful with prompt communication from the initial enquiry, booking, and even a day before we arrived. He was very attentive upon arrival and the brochure we received prior to arrival was full of information and advice on our stay in York which was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and if we needed anything he was only too happy to help. The apartment was fantastic and furnished to a very high standard. The complementary provisions were really well received and again Shaun asked us if we needed anything else to let him know. Having taken our 4 year old with us he made us all feel very special and welcome, taking the stress out of our visit! Would recommend this establishment to anyone wishing to visit York as it serves the city tremendously well. 10/10

Apartment with plenty of space and room to move. Kitchen well equipped and the muffins, butter and jam etc. supplies came in very handy. Conveniently located to explore the centre of York. 10 minutes gets you you to the outer wall and another 10 mins to the heart of the old town. Shaun and his family were very welcoming. Free wifi was great and we enjoyed seeing the locals play bowls and croquet in the fields next door. Having a washing machine was great and there was a hanging frame to dry clothes on. We stayed in Unit 2 with our adult son who was provided a good quality folding bed that he placed in the lounge at night.

My wife and I stayed at Poplar House for 2 nights on May bank holiday. The apartment was spotlessly and beautifully furnished. All the rooms were a good size and well laid out. The apartment is very well located 10 min walk from the train station. There was even eggs, muffins, milk, tea, coffee, and jam for breakfast in the kitchen, nice touch. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely stay there again and can't recommend it highly enough.

Shortly after booking we received an email from Shaun with an information booklet attached. What a good idea. We found this really helpful. On arrival the welcome pack of muffins, eggs, milk, butter and preserves was a lovely touch, and adds to the " home from home" feel of the apartments. You have everything you need and the décor is clean and fresh. Lilian met us at the door and was helpful and informative, and for the rest of our stay we felt that although the Clark's were on hand should we need anything, we were left to enjoy our stay without intrusion. We are a middle-aged couple and I have mild mobility problems, but I found the walk into York was easy, about 10 minutes, all flat ground, and you are there. We visited the York Dungeons, York Castle Museum, York Minster, the Railway Museum and the Yorkshire Museum, and spent hours meandering round the shops in the centre of York, all on foot - we left the car at the apartment all the time. Although we ate out during our stay (I can recommend Yorvik Spice Indian restaurant/takeaway two minutes walk away), the kitchen is well equipped and you could easily cook as you would at home. We would have no hesitation in recommending Poplar House to anyone wanting to stay in York, and we will definitely be staying there again! Thank you Shaun and Lilian!!

The apartment (number 2) was exactly what we hoped for, clean, spacious and very well kitted out. We have a 2 year old daughter, Shaun couldn't have done more to make her stay comfortable! A choice of beds and bedding and high-chairs! Thank you. Just a 10 min walk from the city centre meant we could enjoy a few cocktails to celebrate our anniversary and walk home via a lovely Indian takeaway. Shaun has a pleasant, unassuming welcoming manner, and by and large leaves you to get on with doing your own thing (BC)
However, should you need any advice to help you enjoy your stay he has a wealth of knowledge on York. An extremely enjoyable way to discover, or rediscover York, is to walk to Micklegate Bar, take the Walls to Bootham Bar and follow the Snickleways of York.

Amazing, homely apartment about a 10 minute walk from the centre of York (BC)
Couldn't have asked for better accommodation. Lovely and clean and the eggs, milk and muffins were a lovely touch :-) Thank you. We would definitely stay here again.

We only stayed for 1 night, arriving mid evening on a Friday, but Shaun was very accommodating and helpful upon arrival, making sure we were well welcomed and had everything we could need (BC)
An additional touch was laid on in the fact we were able to leave the car on site for the duration of the weekend break, which removed the hassle and further expense of alternative parking arrangements. Thank you very much. We will return again next time we visit York and I can recommend to everybody. The welcome pack with details and reviews of lots of the local attractions and tourist spots was also a great perk too!

Modern lovely apartment with friendly and welcoming hosts (BC)
The apartment was clean and comfortable with a nice view of the green, and wifi. Great modern interiors. The Clark's were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The apartment has the perfect location 10 min walk from the centre and close to the Racecourse. We can't wait to return and will be staying here again without a shadow of a doubt.

Beautifully fitted out flat, light and airy and very comfortable. Forgot to mention we couldnt get the washing machine to turn on (might just have been us though). If you want to eat at Rustique, book a table (looked and smelled delicious), but we couldn't get in, even at 6pm.

Really helpful and the apartment was really clean which was great (BC)
It was a real home from home. We were really grateful for the loan of a Sat Nav and a map. The only comments to make that might improve the stay is a blind on the bathroom window and the heating staying on a bit later for us lazy bones holiday maker’s who like to sit around for an hour or so in the morning. (Edit: Guests have full personal control of the apartments temperature, feature fireplace, and all central heating thermostat timings and settings)

This was our second stay with Shaun and Lilian (BC)
The apartments are beautiful and spacious. Excellent service as always, have recommended to friends and family. Location is central, shops and amenities nearby. Ideal for a romantic break for couples, or young families. There are only 2 apartments available so very exclusive and adds to the experience of being home from home. We discovered a quaint little cafe called "Me & Mrs Fisher" well worth a lunchtime visit. York Dungeons really good fun but not for the faint hearted. Evening Indian cuisine highly recommend Mumbai Lounge, excellent food and value for money.
